Did I really just hear the twins?

Every time I attempt to blog, the twins freak out.  Aaron is off today because he finished a huge project at work, so we get to sleep in if we want, but NO the twins decide to be up at 6:15!  So I come up here and read and think I can sneek in a few minutes on the computer and blog, and now I hear them crying again.  Ahhhhhh!  Well, maybe they'll be quiet for a little while longer.

Okay, got the twins up and they're watching Praise Baby with me in the office.

I was inspired by Sarah's latest blog on God making the difference, and I thought I would try and get back to the book by Beth Moore, "Get Out of That Pit" that I read months ago.  Overall, it was an excellent book.  One point she makes that I never thought of is to pray scripture out loud.  She talks about that verse that says, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."  She says that when we hear the word coming out of our own mouths, it becomes more real to us.  I thought that was cool.  But the thing that got me, and I reread about 5 times, is her take on James 1:13-14

When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.

She explained that on its own, the word "desire" in the 14th verse is completely neutral, and it is the word Jesus uses when He tells the disciples that He desires to share the last supper with them.  What makes it so hideous is when we put our human bent on it.  But in this verse the "evil" before it actually can be translated into "deformed" desire.  Boy can I relate to having deformed desires.  Who wants to keep repeating the same behavior over and over when you KNOW it's going to harm you?  (Example - bad eating habits, no exercise, poor sleep habits, etc.)  Moore says we have a "messed up want-to" do whatever it is that is destroying us.  A very wise woman has been telling me for years that people basically only do what they really want to, and will justify whatever they dig their heels in about NOT doing.  And it is so true, we only do what we really want to.  So how do we as disciples of Christ be conformed to His image if we only do what we want?   Moore says what we really need to be praying for is a healing of our desires.  We need our "want-to" transformed and healed from its human deformity until it is in the same line as God's.  We need our will, our wants, our drive, to be healed until it is the same as God's will.  It makes me think of the song, "Change my Heart oh God!"  It also makes me think about Jesus telling the Pharisies to clean the inside of the cup and the outside will be clean.  You don't get much more inside than your basic motivation or wants.  And it is much easier to get the outside cleaned up and still have "deformed desires" that no one can see.  It makes you wonder who can be saved, if our nature is at its core, deformed?  Which brings me back to Sarah's blog, But God ...

    Matthew 19:26
Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

    Lydia's Dream Come True

Shane & Lavonne's wedding was this past weekend, and Lydia got to be the flower girl.  She has been asking Shane to get married for about 2 years so that she could be the flower girl.  Smile  She was a princess and completely enjoyed the wedding.  It was kind of scary to put her hair up like that, she can barely stand to have it combed at all, but I think it turned out well.  Anyways, I put up some pictures of her and the wedding.

    Skit

I hope you are able to get to the right place with the link above. This is a skit that Chrissy told us about that has blown me away.  It is amazing really.  At first it is a little cheesy, but stick with it because it is wonderful.  It brought me and Aaron to tears.
